I am building mine with a 54mm mount and will fly it on a 5 grain motor so K i guess. PYRO/TWNY is going to sponsor this an event at LDRS. last year at NYPower marsclub had a fatboy drag race and was that something to see.
I was hoping by now there would be more interest in this. I want to get some rules and actual prizes for winners in different categories.
Best Finish -- I am going to win that.
Altitude
First one off the pad, photo finish will be needed.
longest duration -- "maybe a little kiddie for this crowd"
my favorite wettest paint on the pad!!

I don't know, Iv'e been waiting to see if it's going to happen too. I haven't found that size nose cone very cheap, but you can check Loc, Public Missile, Performance Rocketry & Scotglass.

Yes this contest is a go, check out the contest link off of the front page. If you were at NYPOWER last year and saw the fat boy drag race you will notice a similarity in the rules. The host of NYPOWER gave us permission to use thier rules for this contest. There will be no fee to join the race as we belive that building the rocket will be money well spent to join in, that and you'll have a cool rocket to fly at other times too.

Dutch, I took a look at the link. It's a little confusing in that it says Nypower Big Daddy drag race. This is an LDRS event, right?

More questions...

Where can I get plans for the big daddy? I suppose I could use a rocksim file, but would prefer to work from the original plans.
Does anyone know what the Performance Hobbies discounted price for the AMW 54-1750 reload is?

Eric,

After checking out what you said about the link, I asked the Website Manager to reword it a little and I believe you will find it looks a bit different now. Yes, this is a PYRO/TWNY hosted LDRS event, and hopefully the way it's worded now it will make more sense to all.

As far as the plans for an upscale Big Daddy, there are none that I know of. Myself, I just took my original Big Daddy, figured out that to make it in a 7.5" airframe it was a 2.5 X upscale, and I then multiplied all of it's measurements by that. Of course if there is an actual set of plans for the Big Daddy in this size, I don't know about it. And I plan to use my rocksim anyway.

As for the discounted price on the AMW 54-1750 load, I know it works out to an average 10% discount or $95 for the reload. You just have to pre-order it from Ken and let him know what color you want. Ken will also have the hardware for those who need that too.

Please remember though that the rules state a 'K' motor is what has to be used, so any commercial 'K' can be used, PYRO/TWNY was just able to get a great deal for the discounted AMW 54-1750 reload through Ken Allen.

As for plans and parts Ken Allen at performance hobbies has all the parts in stock, tubes "he can cut them if you need", nose cones, fins made of what ever you want, rings, motor mounts. He had everthing i needed and knew the sizes for the fins, one stop shop i was not to unhappy with the cost. This should be really kewl event.

Spaminator,

What materials are you using? I'd like to go all FG, but it's too spendy.

Mine will be a phenolic tube, G10 fins, glass nose cone i think it was gel coated. plywood rings phenolic motor tube. nothing fancy i went G10 on the fins to keep in lighter in rear section and is a few inches longer than "scale" i like my rockets to fly extra straight. everything came from Ken Allen of perfromancehobbies

are you builing one?

Hope so. Got a quote from Ken for a kit with phenolic airframe and ply fins. Pretty affordable...
